The role of the Purchasing Director is to direct and manage the development and purchasing of commodities, as well as plan and execute strategic objectives and the different development projects of the company related to commodities to purchase. The post also requires significant implication in the management of costs and pricing strategy. Reporting directly to the president, this post requires a candidate able to evaluate, put procedures and a departmental structure into place.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the weekly and monthly purchasing control plans
  • Resource planning in accordance with objectives set by sales and taking into consideration production constraints
  • Initiate and implement strategies for re-purchasing, including seasonal opportunities
  • Complete analyses based on current and future commercial trends
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers and establish communication channels with all suppliers while ensuring continued compliance with our internal requirements
  • Search and establish relationships with new suppliers
  • Negotiate and look for cost reduction with suppliers
  • Work with the sales team in order to integrate customer feedback in future purchasing decisions
  • Hire, support, develop and manage the team of buyers
  • Plan and execute weekly team activities based on production needs, and ensure proper task distribution
  • Ensure the company’s purchasing policy is respected
  • Negotiate directly during the purchasing phase, but also during contracts and in the case of problems (delays, quality, etc.)
  • Establish and implement best business practices for sourcing
  • Ensure defective or problematic products are correctly returned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role which included management of personnel
  • Bilingual (English / French), verbal and written
  • Spanish or 3rd langue an asset
